Every day… I begin with Gratitude.

And although I never look away from the lesser attributes of humanity, I focus on the many acts of Kindness, Compassion, and Generosity. They are all around us if we look for them… and they grow like wildflowers.

Every day I do my best to plant the seeds of these wildflowers…first in myself and then in others. Sometimes those seeds fall upon a stony heart. They do not grow. But I keep on spreading those seeds of Joy and Hope. You never know when they might find a crack in that stone… and against all odds wildflowers grow.

My fifth book, the next book, the first book in a potential new trilogy… is the most challenging one I’ve written to date. In part this is because I have felt challenged in keeping the flowers alive in my own heart when so much of our country and world seems to be made of stone.

But while I try to be a “Good Buddha” and surrender to the moment I am also a good Marine who never quits.

Perhaps it can become an increasingly prevalent portion of our collective DNA that we Homo sapiens grow more wildflowers and mow fewer lawns…

on lands and in our hearts.
